CEDPO was founded in September 2011 by the following European Data Protection Organisations: AFCDP (France), APEP (Spain), GDD (Germany), and NGFG (Netherlands).
In February 2014, ADPO (Ireland), ARGE DATEN of Austria, and SABI (Poland), joined CEDPO. The latest additions to CEDPO took place between 2018 and 2020, when ASSO DPO (Italy), AEPD (Portugal), and ASCPD (Romania) became member associations.
Each data protection association actively engages as part of CEDPO through various working groups that focus on key issues impacting DPOs across the EU.
CEDPO aims are to:
- Promote the role of the Data Protection Officer
- Provide advice on balanced and practical and effective data protection
- Contribute to a better harmonisation of data protection law and practices in the EU/EEA
