New Report Shows Widespread Lack of Web Accessibility Across Irish Organisations

1–2 minutes

Only 27% of the top 100 companies in Ireland have worked to make their websites accessible, according to the Irish Digital Accessibility Index 2023, published by the National Council for the Blind (NCBI). These results are particularly concerning, as they are essentially unchanged from last year, and there are only two years remaining before new legal requirements come into force mandating web accessibility.

The index is based on testing carried out by IA Labs, a company established under the umbrella of NCBI, which specialises in digital inclusion and accessibility. Websites from private companies, educational and healthcare institutions, housing providers, as well as political parties, TDs, and Senators, were tested against international standards for web accessibility, and for their compatibility with screen reader tools.
