
We are proud to announce the election of Professor Tiziana Margaria as the new President of ICS. This appointment, made at the recent Annual General Meeting, marks a significant milestone in the Society’s commitment to advancing technology and innovation in Ireland.
Professor Margaria, an esteemed figure in the tech world, brings a wealth of experience and a vision for the future of computing to her new role. Currently serving as the Chair of Software Systems at the University of Limerick’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, she is at the forefront of cutting-edge research in advanced software systems, system interoperability, and explainable AI.
“We are thrilled to welcome Professor Margaria as our new President,” said Declan Brady, past president of the Irish Computer Society. “Her exceptional expertise and international reputation will be invaluable in guiding ICS and its members through the rapidly evolving landscape of technology.”
Professor Margaria’s impressive portfolio includes:
- Leading research at Lero on high-assurance software using formal methods-based approaches
- Spearheading initiatives at I-Form for end-to-end interoperability in advanced manufacturing
- Co-directing the Centre of Research Training in AI, developing rigorous and explainable AI and ML solutions
- Heading the R@ISE SFI Strategy Partnership Programme, focusing on advanced Low-Code/No-Code platforms for sustainable software development
Her influence extends beyond Ireland’s borders, holding key positions in several international technology organizations:
- Vice President of the IFIP Working Group on Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems
- Past President of the European Association for Software Science and Technology
- Board member and Past President of FMICS, the ERCIM Working Group on Formal Methods for Industrial Critical Systems
Professor Margaria succeeds Declan Brady, who will continue to contribute his valuable expertise as a member of the ICS Council.
